Gail Kelly began her banking career in 1980, and by 2001 she had held various senior management roles in a broad range of areas including retail and commercial banking, strategy, marketing and human resources.
In 2002, Gail Kelly was recruited as CEO of St. George Bank. Shortly afterwards, she was awarded Best Financial Services Executive by the Australian Banking & Finance Magazine in 2003 and 2004. In 2008, Gail Kelly took up the position of CEO at Westpac Banking Corporation, and in the same year was ranked as the Forbes 8th most powerful woman in the world.
Gail Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Higher Diploma of Education from Cape Town University, an MBA with Distinction from the University of Witwatersrand, and an Honorary Doctorate of Business from Charles Sturt University.
Gail Kelly is a non-executive director of the Business Council of Australia, the Australian Bankers? Association and the Financial Markets Foundation for Children. She sits on the Global Board of Advisors at the US Council on Foreign Relations and is a member of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.
Renowned for her commitment to the advancement of women in the business world, Gail Kelly is also Care Australia?s Ambassador for Women?s Empowerment. Perhaps her biggest achievement is her ability to balance work and family life being the happily married mother of 4 young children.
