Learning Through Service
Service Project at Nyangatjatjara College in the Northern Territory
This year students in the Programme will travel to Uluru-Ayers Rock in the Northern Territory to do service work and learn alongside the students and staff at Nyangatjatjara College’s campuses in Yulara and Docker River. Programme participants will travel to the Northern Territory on Saturday 26 November and return to Sydney on Saturday 3 December.
Nyangatjatjara College is the only secondary education provider in the Northern Territory south of Alice Springs. The College’s aim is to have every child, across the three remote communities covered, attending school and learning every day. I visited the College and came away very impressed with the staff’s care and dedication to their students.
Our service work will include painting, gardening and general maintenance. In addition Programme participants will be immersed within the school communities and I’m excited about the opportunity for all involved to connect and learn from each other. I am confident that we will find the service project rewarding and learn and grow from this experience.
